School Visits

Yes, I have done, and continue to offer, visits
to schools.
While I usually
write for older children, a class of second-graders
were studying bees and wanted to learn about my
Animal Angles article on a robotic version of the
real thing. Built at Denmark's Odense University,
"robobee" is a computerized brass-and-beeswax robot
with razor-blade wings and a tube to dispense sugar
water. Robobee is a little larger than an actual
worker honeybee and has helped scientists understand
how honeybees direct hivemates to food.
![]() I drew a robobee schematic poster to show in class. The pupils prepared a large poster of questions, and we discussed them during the visit. They gave me the poster as a souvenir. Please let me know what your needs might be, and I'd be happy to work with you. Check out my articles and book pages on this Web site. Pick a topic. Let’s talk. |
